Polk State College’s Fine Arts Department will present its 2nd Annual Fall Festival of Music and the Arts on Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, Winter Haven campus. The free event will showcase music, drama and the visual arts. Visitors will be able to enjoy student and faculty art displays and performances by the PSC cast of “Guys and Dolls.”
The day will also feature performances by the following college musical groups:
The Concert Choir (directed by John Anderson) will perform music by outstanding contemporary American composers. The new pieces they will be singing are designed to both pull at your heart strings and set your toes tapping.
- The Women’s Chorus (directed by Michelle Manzi) will be singing a wide variety of musical styles featuring beautiful music and a bit of fun.
- The Men’s Ensemble (directed by John Anderson) will be singing musical numbers ranging from the classics to “Doo-wop” and beyond.
- The Vocal Jazz Ensemble (directed by John Anderson) will be presenting the best in a cappella vocal jazz arrangements as well as performances by Cuban-born violin virtuoso Lemay Olano James.
- The Percussion Ensemble (directed by Robert Doster) features fine young musicians performing fascinating and unusual percussion pieces.
- The PSC Stage Band (directed by Roger Hewitt) presents a variety of jazz pieces with universal appeal.
- The PSC String Ensemble (directed by Michael Lawon) will present standards from Leroy Anderson to Bach.
- The Wind Ensemble (directed by Robert Doster) will present everything from traditional marches to the music from “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
